The winners of the Black British Theatre Awards 2023 were announced at a prestigious ceremony which took place at the National Theatre on the 29th October.
The Black British Theatre Awards entered its fifth year of recognising and awarding industry professionals for their works and contributions in a variety of plays, musicals and dance productions that take place predominantly in the UK.

Co founded by Omar Okai and Solange Urdang, their mission stems from a “notable lack of recognition but an abundance of black talent” and the message they carry through the BBTA’s is loud, proud and clear:
“THE BBTA’S PLAN IS TO AMPLIFY THE POSITIVITY OF TALENT AND CREATIVITY IN UK THEATRE. THESE AWARDS ARE A VEHICLE TO DO SO AND A MEANS OF CELEBRATING THE ACHIEVEMENTS OF INDIVIDUALS ACROSS ALL CREATIVE FIELDS IN THE THEATRE INDUSTRY.”
The evening dazzled with a myriad of talent, as nominees, winners, hosts, event organisers, and contributors adorned themselves in lavish attire, leaving no expense spared.
“The Black British Theatre Awards was established to highlight and celebrate the influence of Black performers and creatives in the UK’s artistic legacy, and the impact of their contributions on an International level” – The BBTAs

Can we talk about the fits, gowns and suits now?
Of course.
Prior to the commencement of the awards ceremony, nominees and attendees flocked to the photography area adorned with two backdrops showcasing the Black British Theatre awards, National Theatre and the 2023 sponsors. In this visually captivating space, Photographers/Getty Images skillfully captured the essence of their splendid evening attire and the special occasion. The ambiance exuded a magnetic buzz, and I found myself in awe of their remarkable efforts and distinctive styles.
Presented here below are some of my personal favourites from the evening—did I hear a mention of visual delights?
