Women’s History Month – What, Why & How?

2208 views

Women’s History Month is one of the most underrated yet important celebrations in the fight for equality. The month long event recognises the achievements of females who have defined society as we know it but are regularly left out of school curriculums and industry discussions.

WHAT IS WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH?

Women’s History Month first came to be as a national celebration in 1982, though the first celebration was Women’s History Week. A few years later, it expanded into a full month of honouring women’s roles in society, thanks to a petition from the National Women’s History Project, which led to the proclamation that March of each year shall be Women’s History Month.

WHY DO WE CELEBRATE WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH?

The goal of Women’s History Month is to highlight the achievements and contributions made by a variety of women in a variety of fields: filmmakers, artists, engineers, and pioneers of all kinds.

Throughout time, women have played a vital role in history worldwide. Therefore, Women’s History Month seeks to give credit where credit is due and recognise the women who have changed the world in so many different ways.

HOW CAN YOU SUPPORT AND CELEBRATE WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH?

Stay safe and take care,

Sammi xx
