GIRLSofGRIME X IWD 2023 – ‘Crop Tops & Hoodies’
This year’s International Women’s Day theme, is #EmbraceEquity and GIRLSofGRIME set about creating a project where the usual male to female ratio scale was tipped in the other direction, with women dominating!!
Shakira, the founder of GIRLSofGRIME brought together the following artists and also collated some important data and facts, here’s what she had to say:
Artists Ariez Baby, Cassie Rytz, Frizz Price and duo AE were brought together by GIRLSofGRIME and with the support of each other, the young women have delivered a scorching, empowering new record.
This track aims to highlight the often silenced female voices and to encourage community & corporations into action on our mission to advocate for better gender balance for the next generation!!
Did you know that only 3% of music played on radio is produced by a woman, and at a push 15% of songs are attributed to female songwriters? ‘Crop Tops & Hoodies’ challenges these stats and paints a picture of each individual artist’s perspective of being a woman in this day and age, telling the story of many unheard female voices.
The recording presents original compositions by Producer Paks and co-production by female producer & engineer Ronavella.
To fully support these amazing females and #EmbraceEquity I encourage you to stream ‘Crop Tops & Hoodies’ – This is just the start of a movement that aims to close the gap where there is still ongoing dispute and debate around the need for equal gender pay.
By streaming the track you are helping forge the positive visibility of women everywhere.
In the music industry more resources and opportunities are required for women who are artists, producers, DJ’s, videographers, presenters, managers and business executives to reach their full potential – all of whom were integral parts of bringing this project and others similar to life!!
GIRLSofGRIME & IWD plan to utilise the initial release of the catchy ‘Crop Tops & Hoodies’ track to inspire & encourage other women to write & record their own freestyles & versions of the track, sharing what womanhood means to them and offering an opportunity to display their differing truths.
So, what does womanhood mean to you?
