Music In Motion PR – #TheStorySoFar
This April my girl Sophie of Music In Motion PR put on the first #TheStorySoFar event of the year. Having held two previous events with full houses this one was back with a bang boasting a knowledgable and interesting panel consisting of;
Juelz (Popcaan and Russ Millions Management)
Lily Mercer (Viper Magazine)
Wardah Sempa (Polydor)
Lavida Loca (Artist)
The event was hosted by the gorgeous gorgeous Mlavontelle who was keen to bring out as much as she could from the panelists and instigated some lively discussions and responses from both the panel and audience.
Mlavontelle put the questions to the panel and they each spoke about their experiences and journey in the music industry so far. Their stories were told through fond memories like Lily Mercer speaking about her time with Jamal Edwards and highlighting a major advance in her career when she interviewed Hip Hop Royalty Nas. Some of the challenges the panel faced were so raw and relatable, I’ve always found Wardah Sempah extremely inspiring – her story of starting a blog, progressing to the role of editor for Link Up TV to her present role with Polydor (Universal) all had it’s challenges but her hard work, passion and dedication perservered and got her to where she is now in 2022.
The conversation flowed back and forth between Juelz and MadeYouThink101 throughout the night covering a range of topics from what the hard work actually entails, how to make it happen and how to deal with rejection.
Lavida Loca touched heavily on the effects of mental health in the industry and what values a manager should have – if you’re a manager dealing with an artist that makes music about the trauma they have experienced then you need to be able to manage the trauma, the meltdowns etc… not just be there purely for “The Talent”.
The host and panelist’s received love from everyone involved, sounds were provided by Miss DJ Candy and the networking afterwards was brilliant!
Duppy provided the line up with custom bottles of rum personalised with their names on and Calipo provided custom goodie bags. There was also a fun photo booth set up for guests to enjoy provided by Capture Booth! Check out the recap below.
I can’t reveal all the industry gems that were dropped so come and find out for yourself at the next #TheStorySoFar
