Squid Game Season 2: CONFIRMED
A second season of Squid Game has seemed inevitable, but now we’ve finally had confirmation that it will go ahead.
The South Korean Netflix thriller has proved spectacularly popular over the past month, hitting 111 million views in 28 days – and after those jaw-dropping twists and turns, things were left very much set up for more.
Creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has now revealed that we will “indeed” be getting season two, adding that it is currently in the planning stages.
“So there’s been so much pressure, so much demand and so much love for a second season,” he told the Associated Press. “So I almost feel like you leave us no choice!
“But I will say there will indeed be a second season. It’s in my head right now. I’m in the planning process currently. But I do think it’s too early to say when and how that’s going to happen.
“So I will promise you this…” he added, before confirming: “Gi-Hun will come back, and he will do something for the world.”
The news comes a few weeks after the creator revealed that talks about a return had been happening.
“That’s inevitable because it’s been such a success,” he admitted to The Guardian. “I am considering it. I have a very high-level picture in my mind, but I’m not going to work on it straight away.
“There’s a film I really want to make. I’m thinking about which to do first. I’m going to talk to Netflix.”
Squid Game follows a group of debt-ridden people who compete in a series of children’s games which carry life-or-death stakes, in order to obtain a huge cash prize.
