Affirmations to Make this the Best Week Ever.

“Ugh, I messed up again.”

“Why am I such a failure. Nothing I do works out well.”

“My life is just one bad thing after another. How did I end up here AGAIN?”

These are just some of the common thoughts we have when we are not feeling great and aren’t aware of how powerful a tool the mind is.

Why is it that we are all comfortable saying things like this to ourselves? But when it comes to positive self talk we have to try really hard, seek to justify positivity and really force a shift in our mood?

“Honestly, I rolled my eyes more than once when it was suggested that I started using affirmations. That was quite a long time ago, and I didn’t understand the meaning behind ‘You are the creator of your life’

But once I hit rock bottom a few times, and run out of options for help, self help and explanations of why X,Y & Z kept happening, I started trying out affirmations for myself, I was shocked at the power they had. But upon discovering that power I gained happier days, more self love and finally came to some understanding of how what you think creates your life. Sometimes it’s hard to catch what narrative or thoughts are going through your brain, but once you start recognising and using the power of affirmation, you’ll really begin to enlighten yourself and use affirmations as an effective tool.”

Your negative self talk is running your life. It’s guiding you to make decisions that fit your narrative.

Change the narrative. Change the decisions. Change your life.

Try out a week’s worth of affirmations. Or even just one day.

Seriously, what do you have to lose?

Nothing.

What do you have to gain?

Everything.

An affirmation is emotional support or encouragement. If you spend the time giving yourself the same kind of emotional support or encouragement you would give your best friend, it could be the most beneficial thing you do for yourself.

Setting an intention for the day and setting yourself up for success will be life changing.

There is something life changing about telling yourself you can do something.

Spending a few minutes in positive self-talk and awareness can prepare you mentally for anything.

Please give them a try you might be surprised at how good you feel.

Is There Science Behind Affirming?

Science, yes. Positive affirmations require regular practice if you want to make lasting, long-term changes to the ways that you think and feel. The good news is that the practice and popularity of positive affirmations are based on widely accepted and well-established psychological theory.

The development of self-affirmation theory has led to neuroscientific research aimed at investigating whether we can see any changes in the brain when we self-affirm in positive ways.

There is MRI evidence suggesting that certain neural pathways are increased when people practice self-affirmation tasks (Cascio et al., 2016). If you want to be super specific, the ventromedial prefrontal cortex—involved in positive valuation and self-related information processing—becomes more active when we consider our personal values (Falk et al., 2015; Cascio et al., 2016).

Like I said, give it a go. You have nothing to lose, and everything to gain!

Take care,

Sammi xx
