Hailing from Balham in southwest London, Cassie incorporates a blend of grime, bashment and afro-swing to create her sound. Starting out with Instagram freestyles in her school uniform, it wasn’t long before she attracted the attention of noteworthy London radio stations Reprezent and Rinse FM. BBC 1Xtra sessions with the legendary Sir Spyro soon followed as did speaking in Parliament on the topic of youth support in local communities.
Her potential has since caught the attention of BBC3, who included both her and ‘Shell’ in their six-part reality show Galdem Sugar. A joint commission between BBC3 and BBC Sounds, the series intends to “shed light on the underrepresented female voices in the male-dominated music industry”.
